[London, May 14, 2025] – Keyless, the leader in privacy-preserving biometrics, has joined the Digital Identification and Authentication Council of Canada (DIACC) to help shape the future of trusted digital identity across Canada.
The DIACC is a non-profit alliance of public and private sector leaders working to create privacy-first digital identity standards. Its mission is to build a trusted, interoperable framework that supports Canada’s digital economy by advocating for secure, inclusive, and private digital identity technologies for citizens and organizations.
Building a digital identity economy with privacy-preserving technology
Digital identity is rapidly becoming the backbone of digital economies. Across the globe, countries are launching national identity systems. Europe is mandating digital identity wallets for all member states, Singapore’s Singpass offers secure digital access to over 2,000 services, Australia’s myGovID allows individuals to access government services online. Closer to home, Canada is advancing its nationwide digital ID framework through public-private collaboration led by DIACC.
When people can prove who they are online, they gain faster, more secure access to essential services - from signing contracts to making payments. But with these opportunities come risks. Once someone gains access to a digital identity, how can we be sure it’s really them using it?
Trust shouldn't be assumed after onboarding - it must be proven every time.
Founded in Europe by privacy and cryptography experts, Keyless’ biometric authentication technology is used by banks, fintechs, governments, and identity wallets to continuously authenticate identity throughout the digital lifecycle. Whenever a user performs a sensitive action that requires a higher level of trust - such as making a payment or changing account details - Keyless prompts a selfie using the device’s camera. Unlike SMS OTPs or local biometrics, Keyless confirms that the user carrying out the action is the original account holder, without ever storing or exposing biometric data.
A shared vision
Joni Brennan, President of DIACC, welcomed Keyless to the council: “Keyless brings a unique and valuable perspective to DIACC’s growing ecosystem. Their commitment to privacy-preserving biometric authentication supports our shared goal of enabling secure, privacy-respecting digital identity solutions for Canadians and global users alike. We look forward to the impact this partnership will bring.”
“Trustworthy and private digital identity really is the foundation for secure and scalable access to the digital world,” said Fabian Eberle, Co-Founder and COO at Keyless. “We’re thrilled to be part of DIACC’s mission and to contribute our experience building authentication systems that prove who’s really behind the screen - without compromising privacy.”
